Was Sho Baraka’s use of the N and B word “crossing the line”?
Today the Christian Hip Hop world is silently confused. Dialogue has been sparked and the religious are pissed off. One of the most recognized artists associated with the genre has said some things that have caught many off guard. In Sho Baraka’s latest track ‘Jim Crow’ you will hear the N word and B word. This is shocking to many because Sho is known for his work with Reach Records (Lecrae, Trip Lee, Derek Minor, Andy Mineo, and Tedashii). Also he has collaborated with respected faith based artists like Swoope, Suzy Rock, JR (Hi-Society) and much more. There are going to be two sides to the debate. Which one do you subscribe to?

What if the highest selling artist of the last decade decides to use his gift for God?
What if 13 Time Grammy Award Winning Rapper Eminem begins to express the Gospel through his Rhymes?
What if the author of multiple #1 Hits announced that he was tired of making music with vulgar content?
How would you react?
Based on a report published by ALLHIPHOP.COM your reaction may be generated in the near future. Recently a rumor saying that Eminem has become a Christian has spread across the web. Apparently sources from Detroit are witnessing a transformation in the life of arguably the greatest emcee of all time. They say he no longer wants to conform to the ways of the music industry and many have said that it is affecting some of his business moves. On his verse in 50 Cent’s “My Life” track he alludes to a belief in Jesus Christ. Also on his first album ‘Infinite’ Em said “But in the midst of this insanity. I’ve found my Christianity through God and theirs a wish that he has granted me.” After delivering these lyrics on his Freshman album he went on to change his content drastically and make music with an extreme secular twist that consistently shocked the media world. He would speak on drugs, rape, abuse and other taboo subjects. Has the hard hitting lyricist changed his ways and applied the teachings of Christ he once seemed to believe in? According to many Hip-Hop analyst, he wants to change his ways in order to be a good example to his daughter. The recent maturity and sobriety are an indication that he is traveling a much different road than he did in his 20′s and 30′s. Another intriguing fact is that Eminem has several connection to the rapidly growing movement in Christian Hip-Hop.
A super producer named Boi-1da who has produced for Eminem has also produced for faith based artist like Bizzle and Jin. Also Royce Da 5’9 (One of Eminem’s artist) has collaborated with Kaboose, a rapper that has a Christian message in his music. KJ-52 once wrote a letter to Eminem in a form of his record “Dear Slim” that Eminem might have listened to according to several websites. With Lecrae’s recent mainstream success it’s quite possible that he is inspired to create music that reflects his new found belief in God, if the rumor is true. What if it is? What are your thoughts on this rumor that was ignited by a website nominated for best Hip-Hop website by BET.
